East Bay Rained Out

A persistent rainshower struck at East Bay Raceway Park at 6:15 p.m., bringing an end to the night’s action. Track workers had spent the day working to offset the rain that arrived during the week, but the Saturday evening thunderstorm made all of the work for naught.

East Bay Raceway Park will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15 with Firefighters & EMT. All Firefighters and EMTs will be admitted free into the grandstands with proper ID. The racing action will consist of Pro Late Models, Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Sprints, Street Stocks, Florida Old Time Modifieds and Micro Sprints.

Hot laps begin at 6 p.m. with racing underway at 6:30 p.m.

Next Racing Sept. 8

Due to excessive amounts of rainfall in the past week and a forecast for more, racing at East Bay Raceway Park for Sept. 1 has been cancelled.

Racing will resume Saturday, Sept. 8. Hot laps are 6 pm, racing starts at 6:30pm

Campbell, Bradley Make Returns to East Bay Victory Lane

After a one-week break mandated by Mother Nature, East Bay Raceway Park returned to action on a hot summer Saturday night. Many of the drivers on hand worked hard to get their equipment in top shape and it showed with some great performances.

Jerod Meyers picked up his first feature victory of the 2018 season, dominating the competition in the 12-car Micro Sprint class. Meyers becomes the third different winner of the year and the victory will help move him into the top 10 with a lot of racing still on the schedule.

John Bradley made an outside pass to win his heat race, then repeated the feat in the feature to claim victory there. Bradley slipped past early race leader Matt Bozeman and set sail for the 15-lap win. It was Bradley’s second feature victory as the current points leader now has 8 top five finishes in 9 starts.

Gonzo Godwin got the best of the field in the Florida Old Time Modified 12-lap main. Dan Darnell made a late race charge, but fell just short as the laps wound down.

Hayden Campbell is no stranger to East Bay’s victory lane and he made a return visit tonight in the Bob & Marge Long Memorial 25-lap main event for the Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Sprints. Campbell shot to an early lead and encountered lapped traffic on lap 3. Campbell was able to slide by, but a hard charging Robbie Smith was not as fortunate, making contact and taking a tumble. Smith was OK, but clearly disappointed. On the subsequent restart, Billy Boyd and Andy Kelly made contact, resulting in Boyd flipping in turn one as the red flag returned.

Once the race went green, it stayed that way until a lap 20 caution for 2017 East Bay Sprints champion Justin Webster who stopped on the track. Campbell now had his hands full with Sport Allen’s effort, using the higher line to seek an advantage. There was none to be found as Campbell cruised back to Victory Lane.

The night’s action concluded with a last lap shootout in the Gladiators between race leader Daniel Casey and challenger Daniel Bowman. Bowman took the lead momentarily after a lap 12 restart, but caution flew again, putting Casey in control. The two renewed the battle through the last laps. Casey had the lead off turn four, but contact with Bowman got him sideways and Bowman was able to squeeze across the line in front.

NEXT WEEK AT EAST BAY RACEWAY PARK

Colding Dominates in Q Auto and Injury Sprints Main

Saturday night, Mother Nature smiled on the racers and fans at the Clay by the Bay after last week’s rainout. The Q Auto and Injury Sprints were in action as Dylan Colding took the win in the 15-lap feature race in dominating fashion.  Colding started on the pole and never looked back, driving away from the nearest competitor by ¾ of a lap.  Joe Zuczek had a good car,but was no match for Colding.  Zuczek finished 2nd.  Bryan Eckley, Kurt Taylor and David Slawiak rounded out the top 5.

In the Street Stocks, Zach Amundsen went to Victory Lane.  Amundsen started 5th and drove through the field.  As the laps ran down, he made the pass to take the lead and ultimately the checkered flag.  Jim Baker finished 2nd.  David Barwick II led early, coming home with 3rd place finish.  Rich Livernois Sr. and John Bradley completed the top-5. Livernois Jr and John Bradley won the heat races.

The Late Model Sportsmans were up next with Andrew Hopkins taking the win after a stellar performance. He held off the challenge of Noah Cornman, who came across the line in 2nd  but was DQed after race for a tire issue.  Forrest Gough battled hard all night and finished 3rd.  Daniel Woody and Wesley Livernois rounded out the top 5.  Hopkins was the heat winner

In the Micro Sprints, Mike Meyers led start to finish to take the win.  He fought off the hard charging Kevin Strife early on.  Strife would drive to a second-place finish.  Chris Livernois, Jr finished third.  Matt Wedgewood and Steve Diamond rounded out the top-5.  In the heats, Strife and Livernois Jr. took the wins.

The Gladiators rounded out the evening in exciting fashion. Daniel Bowman and Daniel Casey battled most of the race with Casey leading the way.  Late in the race, Bowman passed Casey in turn 4 and was able to hold off the hard charging Casey for the win. Casey finished 2nd.  Robert Kissam ran third all night and finshed third.  Kever Raulerson and polesitter Bailey Purcell rounded out the top-5.  Jeff Smith and Bowman won the heats.

The action cranks up again, Saturday, August 11 when the Gagel’s Open Wheeled Modifieds, Late Model Sportsman, V8 Warriors, Outlaw 4’s and Mini Sprints hit the track for a night of racing. The racing starts at 7:30pm and hot laps at 7:00pm.
